The inaugural Saturday Sweets micro-grant distribution event on Saturday, April 27, 2013 was a huge success – thanks to all of our supporters in this first round of networking and giving.
With the beautiful home of our gracious hosts, Bernard and Denise Loyd, as a most fitting setting, Saturday Sweets guests mingled, enjoyed champagne (compliments of our hosts), and sampled from a wonderful dessert spread created by Revival Arts Collective co-founder, Frankie M. Brown.
Four applications were selected for presentation during the evening, and we were thrilled to have three of the applicants in attendance to present to guests and answer questions about their respective projects. After the Q & A period, guests voted for the project to receive funding.
We are pleased to announce that the first Saturday Sweets micro-grant was awarded to Toni Anderson of Sacred Keepers Sustainability Lab. Toni was awarded a $350 micro-grant for their proposed Sacred Keepers Youth Garden Living Walls Project – check out their work online via their website and Facebook page, or in person at their garden at the southeast corner of 48th & King Drive.
Special thanks to our other project presenters for the evening:
- Christopher Devins – Bronzeville Legends Identity Placemaking
- Teena Sloane-Hendricks – The Soul Train Impact
While we were only able to provide a micro-grant for one project this time, all of the proposed projects are worthy of funding – help us find a way to financially support all of these thoughtful and timely projects. If you’d like more information about the selected projects, feel free to contact the presenters directly, or reach out to us at curators@revivalartscollective.org.
Applications for the next round of micro-grants are due on Friday, June 7, 2013 by 5pm CST – please spread the word about this wonderful, grassroots opportunity. Lastly, we’re looking for a new host for the next Saturday Sweets event, scheduled for Saturday, June 22, 2013 – if you are interested in hosting the event, and/or providing in-kind donations, please contact us via email.
Thanks again to all of our supporters and friends – we look forward to having a “sweet” time at our next event in June – take care!
