Our Next Saturday Sweets Event

SS_Plugger_July2013

It’s been a while, but Saturday Sweets is finally back!!! The Revival Arts Collective invites you to join us for our next micro-grant distribution event on Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 6pm-8pm at Blanc Gallery – thanks to our friends there for agreeing to host us.

We’re excited about all of the creative proposals we received for Bronzeville projects, and now it’s time for the rest of our supporters to learn more about the projects, and vote on which should receive the next Saturday Sweets micro-grant. Of course, you’ll also get a chance to sip cool drinks, while enjoying sweet treats and networking with fellow Bronzeville supporters.

We invite you to simply bring your interest, sweet tooth, and $10 (cash, please) to be a part of the Saturday Sweets experience. Remember that your cash donation goes right into the pot that we use to fund the winning grant proposal for the evening.

We look forward to you and your friends joining us on July 27 – see you then!

June Grant Distribution Postponed

In order to garner increased interest in the next Saturday Sweets event, and celebrate the one-year anniversary of Revival: Bronzeville, the Revival Arts Collective will postpone the June grant distribution until Saturday, July 27, 2013.  We apologize to our supporters and interested applicants for delaying the process, however, we hope that additional time will help birth the community-building experience we experienced at the inaugural Saturday Sweets event in April.

Per our posted grant calendar, the next deadline for submitting Saturday Sweets project grant applications is Friday, July 12, 2013 by 5:00 p.m. CST.

The project grant application is available online, and interested applicants are encouraged to review the Application page on our website for more information.

Saturday Sweets in the News

A little press goes a long way: check out this brief article in Chicago Weekly highlighting the inaugural Saturday Sweets event.  Thanks to writer Eve Rodgers (and friend) for attending the event, taking time to speak to us, and spreading the word about Saturday Sweets to a wider audience.

April 2013 Event A “Sweet” Success

April 2013 Sweets

The inaugural Saturday Sweets micro-grant distribution event on Saturday, April 27, 2013 was a huge success – thanks to all of our supporters in this first round of networking and giving.

With the beautiful home of our gracious hosts, Bernard and Denise Loyd, as a most fitting setting, Saturday Sweets guests mingled, enjoyed champagne (compliments of our hosts), and sampled from a wonderful dessert spread created by Revival Arts Collective co-founder, Frankie M. Brown.

Four applications were selected for presentation during the evening, and we were thrilled to have three of the applicants in attendance to present to guests and answer questions about their respective projects.  After the Q & A period, guests voted for the project to receive funding.

We are pleased to announce that the first Saturday Sweets micro-grant was awarded to Toni Anderson of Sacred Keepers Sustainability Lab.  Toni was awarded a $350 micro-grant for their proposed Sacred Keepers Youth Garden Living Walls Project – check out their work online via their website and Facebook page, or in person at their garden at the southeast corner of 48th & King Drive.

Special thanks to our other project presenters for the evening:

  • Christopher Devins – Bronzeville Legends Identity Placemaking
  • Teena Sloane-Hendricks – The Soul Train Impact

While we were only able to provide a micro-grant for one project this time, all of the proposed projects are worthy of funding – help us find a way to financially support all of these thoughtful and timely projects.  If you’d like more information about the selected projects, feel free to contact the presenters directly, or reach out to us at curators@revivalartscollective.org.

Applications for the next round of micro-grants are due on Friday, June 7, 2013 by 5pm CST – please spread the word about this wonderful, grassroots opportunity.  Lastly, we’re looking for a new host for the next Saturday Sweets event, scheduled for Saturday, June 22, 2013 – if you are interested in hosting the event, and/or providing in-kind donations, please contact us via email.

Thanks again to all of our supporters and friends – we look forward to having a “sweet” time at our next event in June – take care!

Saturday Sweets Launch for 2013

The Revival Arts Collective is pleased to announce the much anticipated launch of Saturday Sweets for 2013.

Based on the Sunday Soup model, Saturday Sweets is a recurring community event which gathers the public to learn about and support creative projects in Chicago.  In exchange for a small donation, Saturday Sweets guests enjoy dessert and drinks, while listening to presentations by selected artists/artist groups.  After the presentations, Saturday Sweets guests vote on which creative project to fund, and at the end of the event, the artist/artist group with the most votes gets the money raised from donations that night.

The Saturday Sweets project grant application is now posted online, and due on Friday, February 8, 2013 by 5:00 p.m. CST.

Help us spread the word about this amazing grassroots funding opportunity, and we look forward to you joining us at our first Saturday Sweets event on Saturday, February 23, 2013 (location and time TBD).

Happy New Year!!!
